All students will be required to review the lesson at home. Then, students will construct their Essay Outline and a three-paragraph essay response that should be submitted no more than 12 hours following the class.Assessment
No numerical, letter, or holistic score will be administered. Students' essays will be critiqued by providing narrative comments that will reflect whether they followed the strategies and implemented any devices discussed in the lesson. Additionally, suggestions will be made too, if deemed necessary.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
This Basic Guided Explanatory Writing Course will focus on writing Explanatory Essays for five days. Each day will focus on learning and implementing a different writing strategy. The five strategies that will be addressed are Cause & Effect, Compare & Contrast, Problem & Solution, Process, and Description. This is a 5-day course. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Lessons will be delivered in a PowerPoint presentation format for 45 minute durations. During each lesson, I will present a lesson objective, graphic organizer/essay outline, introduction paragraph strategies, and five body strategies. Upon the conclusion of each class, students will submit the following their THREE-PARAGRAPH ESSAY response if desired. Each response must be type-written within a 2-hour timeframe following the class, if the student would like to receive comments. Upon submission, I will peruse the entire essay and provide a concrete and valuable narrative critique to inform the student if they have followed the strategy or strategies correctly. I will also make suggestions if deemed necessary.
