The Basics of Drawing will cover basic drawing technique through the use of drawing pencils and colored pencils. Week 1: The study of line and shape with video and examples. Our game of Guess Who begins with 4 selected artists and accompanying artwork. Learners will be asked to create at least 2 drawings, one with a focus on shape and one with a focus on line, and to post in the classroom. Week 2: The study of shading and light direction with video and examples. Our game of Guess Who will continue. If the previous 4 pieces of artwork have been matched with their artists, 4 new artists will presented. Learners will be asked to create shading samples and then a drawing utilizing shading and to post in the classroom. Week 3: The study of the three types of symmetry through video and examples. Our game of Guess Who will continue. If the previous 4 pieces of artwork have been matched with their artists, 4 new artists will presented. Learners will be asked to create at least two drawings using 2 out of 3 examples of symmetry and to post in the classroom. Week 4: The study of abstract art through video and examples. Our game of Guess Who will continue. If the previous 4 pieces of artwork have been matched with their artists, 4 new artists will presented. Learners will be directed on how to create an abstract drawing and will be asked to share their final creation in the classroom. Week 5: The study of realism through video and examples. Our game of Guess Who will continue. If the previous 4 pieces of artwork have been matched with their artists, 4 new artists will presented. Learners will be asked to create at least one or two realistic drawings and to share them in the classroom. The class will be taught through prerecorded videos and posted examples. The given examples will help give learners a "springboard" to dive into their art. Learner's should share their artwork in the classroom. They are welcome to continue to create and share as many drawings as they like. Questions, comments, and discussion of the topics are encouraged. Artists will view their drawing subjects from new perspectives and practice drawing skills that they will take with them into future creations. Along with sharing and discussing our artwork we will also play an ongoing game of "Guess Who". In the game of "Guess Who" I will provide several examples of famous artwork and give clues as to which artist created them. Students can then try to match the artist to the artwork from the clues given. No prior experience or knowledge is needed. Just an open mind and the desire to be creative and to learn. Everyone is an artist. The video presentation is via a YouTube link and consists of a video recording of me and my slide show presentation that I have created and recorded specifically for my students.

My official accreditation with the CCA if Fellow of the Cecchetti Council of America (FCCA)
I have taught, and continue to teach, ballet at National Ballet Institute for the Arts since 1996. At NBIA I have taught children as young as 3 all the way through adults. I have presented both children and teacher's for their Cecchetti ballet certifications. While teaching at NBIA I have guest taught at many studios throughout Maryland and Virginia and continue to teach at the local community center one day a week.
At National Ballet Institute for the Arts my studies included ballet, modern dance, Ukranian dance, Scottish Highland dance, and other forms of character dance. My performance experience includes The Nutcracker, Giselle, Coppelia, The Tales of Beatrix Potter and more!
Additionally, I have been a professional artist since 1999, selling art locally and online. This has led to multiple teaching and exhibition opportunities. Teaching experience has included after school arts programs at the local elementary school, art programs at The Creative and Performing Arts of South County, and independent pop up classes.
Currently, I am LOVING teaching my students on Outschool!
Off of Outschool I am a founding member of The Creative and Performing Arts of South County, an arts center in Maryland and a board member of the Cecchetti Institute (a historical institute for preserving the work of Enrico Cecchetti). I am also a homeschooling mom, finishing up our 9th year!
I believe that learning is fun, the more you learn the more exciting life becomes!
If you do not see a class that works at a time for you, make a request! I cannot promise that I can fulfill the request, but I will do my very best!
