Class Experience

This class provides students with the basic drawing tools needed to provide a good foundation for their artwork. Students will learn everything from perspective to creating visual textures, culminating in a drawing project that showcases their growth. Each class features a demonstration followed by in class work time. Students will be able to contact me in between lessons for help on their projects. During class students will have the chance to have a live critique from the teacher as well.

Week One: Perspective-Students will learn about the principles of perspective. Students will learn to draw in 1 pt and 2pt perspectives. They will complete two exercises using those perspectives and will then complete a cityscape drawing and a room drawing.

Week Two: Form- In this class students will learn all about value and how to use it to bring their drawings to life. Students will learn about and create their own value scales they can use to determine how dark shadows are. They will also learn about the types of light and shadow. Using this knowledge they will complete 3 different exercises using the handouts provided. They will also create a drawing of their choice being careful to apply the principle of Value to their artwork.

Week Three: Positive and Negative Shapes-Students will learn how to create interesting drawings using positive and negative shapes. They will also learn about thumbnails and comps, and how to use them to create better artwork. Using what they’ve learned they will plan out a new artwork from start to finish, utilizing thumbnails and comps

Week Four: Movement in Drawing-In this lesson students will learn how to walk a viewer through their artwork using focal points and visual movement. They will plan out a new artwork that utilizes movement.

Week Five: Still Life-In this lesson students will learn how to put everything they have learned all together by composing a still life drawing. Students will also prepare for their final project by planning it out and utilizing what they have learned throughout the class.

Week Six: Putting it all Together-Students will have roughly 30 minutes to get one on one critique with the teacher. The last thirty minutes will be spent on a group critique.

My name is Ashley Kaye I am an artist with years of teaching in the public school system under my belt. I have built multiple art programs from the ground up and I believe that anyone can be an artist if they have the right training. In my years of teaching art I have seen timid students blossom into wonderful artists with the help of the right tools. There has never been a student that I couldn't teach, and I don't believe in giving up until we get it right.

I teach group classes on digital and traditional art as well as private art lessons. Want a specific time for a lesson or class? Just shoot me a message and I'll do my best to make it happen.

I adore Godzilla (probably to an unhealthy extent) and I live in Idaho with my husband, three beautiful kids, six chickens, the world's most ridiculous cat and a fat lazy German Shepard named Lucky.
