Earning that first paycheck - it can be an exciting thing for a newly employed teen! And, for those teens with relatively few financial obligations, it can be nerve wracking for their parents. Teens starting their first job, heading off to college, or otherwise becoming independent adults need to be financially literate in order to plan for long term financial success. Step 1 is creating a basic budget sheet - something we'll accomplish in this class! In this short course we'll cover the basics of putting together a budget and students will leave feeling in control of their income and expenses. We will learn... 1. How to navigate Excel/Google Sheets 2. Basic functions within Excel (SUM) 3. How to classify and organize income and expenses Students will also leave with a ready-made budget sheet that they can use for years to come. This will be an interactive session that will be very visual and will include both a powerpoint presentation, and screen-share walkthrough of a budget sheet. Learners will be encouraged to think about how they currently manage their income, and how they track expenses. Learners do not necessarily need Excel or Google sheets to participate in this course, but it will be helpful if they have an account to explore the provided document.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Over the last 10+ years I've worked in higher education as an enrollment leader. I've read and evaluated 10,000+ applications at both the undergraduate and graduate level for both large public research institutions and smaller, private colleges. I've also interviewed THOUSANDS of students!
Trust me when I tell you that I know what skills learners need to develop to be successful throughout and after high school.
My classes cover basic life skills like how to budget as a teen, how to craft a compelling resume, and how to have an authentic interview. Learners will find my courses relevant and helpful as they maneuver through applying to schools, landing their first job, and becoming an adult.
For parents, I want to make big moments in your learner's life feel less scary and help learners feel comfortable navigating their future. Let's focus on getting learners prepared for what's next!
As for me, I hold a BA in Public Relations & Advertising as well as my MBA from Chapman University. I live in Orange County, CA with my wife (a 4th grade teacher) and my two children.
