In this twice weekly workshop for kids in the basics of the harmonica, we will learn music the fun way, using popular tunes such as “Jingle Bells,” “Orange Blossom Special,” the Beatles’ “Love Me Do” and fun novelty tunes by Woody Guthrie, Doctor Demento and Jack Elliott In a communal “call and response” format. Videos are used to "jam" with in this highly instructive and fun group experience. Now by popular demand a tyke-friendly version called “Harmonikiddos.” Outschool is a global platform – and though it’s an ongoing two-times-a-week class we do something different every class! Another facet of my Mission Harmonica Circle™ music adventures. Those who know me know that my teaching style is unconventional. My motto is “Making Your World Better With Music ... and Harmonicas!” and I truly believe that the more fun you have, the more you will learn.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to play at least one song per session on the C harmonica
Know what key harmonica is used for playing in C,D,E,F, and G
Make various go-to sounds like “train sounds,” “bluesy shuffle,” “bending a note”
Jamming with your fellow Harmonikiddos and learning the secrets of this amazing instrument

Supply List
The learner will need a simple diatonic harmonica in the key of C, which may be purchased at a supplied merchandise provider – see the plastic harmonicas in my teacher profile pic for an example. I will show you how to get one before the class begins so you can have ample time to fool around with it and get to know your instrument before you come to class. Also, songbook pages and technique handouts and charts are useful for continuing lessons. I like to hand out song lyrics with harp chords on them and charts that show the basics of music theory for learners to practice 15 minutes a day on songs, techniques and jams.
