Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
Many students have learned about President George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. But there are many former presidents of the United States that most of us know very little information.

In this class each week we will learn about a different President if the United States of America. Students will learn basic things like their names, where they are from, what years the were president. However, students will also learn about what happened while they were president, what they accomplished as well as some fun facts.

This will be a fun, energetic class where student will have a chance to interact with the lesson material.

This class will met once a week with a different president each week allowing for a full school year worth of lessons.

This class students will learn basic historic facts about each president. Lessons will not deal with political opinions or controversial topics based on personal feelings. When talking about the Presidents of the United States sensitive topics may be raised by other students. For example, students may bring up slavery when talking about a number of presidents. At this age I will acknowledge the topic but be very careful to keep the details age appropriate. I would say “there were a group of people that were being badly mistreated and were not allowed to do things that others could”.

For sensitive topics, if students want to discuss more detailed accounts I will gently stop the conversation and let them know that it is not the main topic being discussed. Every student is in a different emotional place to be able to handle these topics so they will be kept from discussing. I will not ignore the existence that these topics exist but will be purposely vague as the focus of discussion will be on the Presidents.

What president will we learn about each week? Here is the full list:

36. Lyndon B. Johnson 1963-1969 Week of May 21

Parental Guidance
This class is a biography class about the lives of the Presidents of the United States of America. It is not a class about politics. This class will be inclusive to all. If student bring up political questions or comments, the students will be interrupted and gently told that these questions and/comments will not be discussed in class. Since the Presidents are people, messy things happened during their lifetime. Although the focus of the classes will be on the presidents life, there may be brief mentions of some sensitive topics (ex. war, violence, slavery). These topics when brought up will be done so gently with very little detail. However families should decided if their learner is ready for such topics.

As a father to an active 7 year old, I know that learning must be fun. The early years of a child’s education is critical not only for their future success but also their enjoyment of learning. I want to start kids off right on this journey. I have a Bachelor‘s degree from Geneva College with over a decade experience teaching children and teens. I have years of experience leading a classroom in both public schools in Ohio as well as online. I previously held credentials through the State of Ohio Department of Education (now expired). I taught in public schools for 2 school years where history and other social studies was part of my duties as an educator. I have over 5 years of experience teaching children on online platforms and have taught thousands of kids to live history. I pride myself on never letting kids get bored yet always be learning. I have a passion for helping children succeed.
