Class Experience

A former Major League player, coach and current game strategy director for a Major League team will lead this class in breaking down the week's biggest moments in Major League baseball and review the strategy and decision-making process behind each turning point play. Students will learn the ins and outs of baseball, getting a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes. Students will never watch or play the game the same, improving their baseball knowledge and instincts by learning from the pros.

The list of strategy and decisions that go into the game can go on forever, anything from:
Pitching changes
Pinch hitters
Stolen bases
Sacrifice bunting
Baserunning decisions
Defensive decisions
Hitting decisions
Pitcher's pitch selection
More...

Each week we will highlight significant plays, and games, breaking them down to learn from them, and we will also spend a small portion of the class dedicated to a specific topic.

November 8: Sacrifice Bunting. Big moments where bunt or no bunt decided the game
November 15: Stealing Bases. When is the risk worth the reward, and who are the game's best base stealers?
November 22: Importance of strike outs. When do you pitch to the strike out, and what is the cost?
November 29: Pitching changes. Who are the right relievers to bring in and when?
December 6: Defensive decisions?. Where do you play your defense and why?
December 13: Pitch Selection. What is the right pitch for pitchers to throw in certain situations?

We will watch videos from key plays using different angles and cameras. We will break down numbers, charts, and graphs, and pinpoint all of the things that went into the play, even using post-game quotes from the manager or players themselves. We will use all this information to help teach us about the game.

This class will be very interactive, allowing every student to offer their thoughts, insights, and ask questions. There will be quizzes, trivia, and poll questions.

No matter how much knowledge they have for the game, I will make sure every student feels comfortable, and I guarantee their baseball IQ will be increased by the end of each class.
