Learners will acquire the seven essential phonemic awareness skills: segmenting, blending, comparing, adding, deleting, substituting, and rhyming.
I have a B.A. in Elementary Education with a specialization in Reading/Language Arts. I have worked with Dyslexic students for more than 20 years.
Parent should read a book to the student daily. This can be as short as 5-10 minutes to keep the student interested in books and to learn to enjoy books.
It is helpful for the student to take the course on a laptop or computer so they can use the remote control to move the virtual tiles. If this is not possible, please purchase a set of colored tiles so they can move those on their table instead. You can see the type of tile at this link: https://www.amazon.com/ETA-hand2mind-ManipuLite-Color-Tiles/dp/B01NBRBIJP/ref=sr_1_18_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=colored+tile+manipulatives&qid=1605885574&sr=8-18-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyOU9FWENNMjlWN1BJJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTExODk1MzZEOU1HTzIwVENVSyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTc4NDMyQVRENFRMNzFCNzVCJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfbXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
A posttest will be given in each of the seven areas of essential phonemic awareness. The student will obtain mastery when they can complete the posttest with 95% or higher accuracy.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
