Glossary of Financial terminology

Council tax:
This is a tax which is based on the value of your property, charged to anyone who owns or rents a home and is not in full-time education. This funds local council services.

Credit card:
With a credit card you can buy things now and pay later. You can run up a bill to an agreed limit and pay it off afterwards, usually once a month on a particular payment date.

Debit card
A debit card is like a direct link to your bank account, meaning the funds leave your account immediately when you use the card to pay for something

Mortgage:
A mortgage is when a bank, building society, etc. lends money at interest as a loan to pay off the price of a property

Net:
The total amount remaining in your account after all expenses are deducted

Overdraft:
A deficit created when more money is drawn out than the account holds. Different credit accounts will allow different limits of overdraft.

Pension:
A pension is a long-term savings plan – your regular contributions are invested so that they grow throughout your career and then provide you with an income in retirement. Generally you can access the money in your pension pot from the age of 55.

Excellent One-to-One Maths Tutor (KS3 and KS4)

My teaching embodies the need for metacognition strategies to improve pupils learning abilities. Ultimately it's what gets remembered that eventually gets used. With the various teaching and learning strategies, I strive to help my pupils with the best-suited style to get achieving set goals. This will be assessable, accessible and reviewed over time. 

I taught maths secondary (KS3 and KS4/ High School/Secondary School) in a school in Portsmouth, a mixed ability class of 30 pupils on a 90mins/class full-week timetable. Classes had to be differentiated and accelerated while using assessment for learning techniques, teaching and meta-cognitions strategies to help varying ability learners (Mastery to SEN). I also work with interventions to help pupils achieve GCSE levels required up to 9.  I try to create an engaging learning environment for my learners which is a proven strong motivator for positive learning.

Background/Experience:
Feb, 2020 - date One-to-One ONLINE PRIVATE TUTOR (Math- KS3 & KS4):
•	Conduct individual math tutoring program for students using comprehensive lesson plans, exams and final projects to showcase grasp of material.
•	Tutor three students per week in private sessions by providing detailed lesson plans, assessing students’ progress, differentiation, SEN, EFL and communicating with teachers, students and parents about outcomes.
•	Develop student confidence though attentive instruction in reflection areas, applying positive reinforcement strategies and review to help students master challenging material.
•	Make lessons interesting and engaging using art and visual aids to bolster learning.
•	Evaluate and revise lesson plans and course content to facilitate and moderate classroom discussions and student-centred learning.
•	Network with other educators to promote awareness of advanced teaching practices and development of 21st Century skills – (STEM member).

What prior learning do students need? Each team’s Score Card is laid out like a simple bank statement and students will need to understand the conventions for how a bank balance is represented and how to write down money that leaves or enters the account. The Rules above and below summarise this for students: 1. Credits are paid in to your account and add to your balance. 2. Debits are paid out from your account and reduce your balance. 3. An account with money in it is ‘in credit’ and has a CR after the balance. An account that is overdrawn is ‘in debit’ and has a DR after the balance. These four points will be discussed and reviewed with the group (students) so they can accurately adjust and show their bank balance after each transaction or event. I will demonstrate this with an example (modelling). Before our Game Session, IMPORTANT things TO DO; 1. Copy and past this link in your browser and watch each video one step at a time starting from Step 1 to the last Step. 2. Print the attached documents and spend some time reading them to familiarise yourself ahead of our game meeting time. 3. Read the student rules, and cards to have an idea of the sorts of decisions you will need to make. Familiarise yourself with the score card (which is your bank statement). 4. Make sure to come with a single die. Please note, DO NOT attend a game session if you have not watched the Introduction videos (link above) and have no die.
