This course is suitable for a brand-new beginner to tap and/or ballet lessons. As dance is learned through repetition and progressions, it is also appropriate for dancers ages four to six years with two or three years of experience. While learning activities will change weekly, it is important for young learners to experience the same class structure each week. Exercises will also remain quite similar from week to week to allow learners to better understand the movements and terminology. Dancers work for many years to perfect these exercises! Dancers may re-enroll in this course until they have two to three years of experience, as we will progress the exercises as dictated by the needs of the class. I hope that your young dancer will join me as I share my love of dance, in hopes of providing your dancer with a strong foundation for his or her dance education. Class Structure: Introductions Tap: Warm-Up exercises in place (Center) Exercises "Across the Floor" Activity and/or Combination -Shoe Change with teacher and class interaction activity- Ballet: Center exercises Stretch "Across the floor" Activity/Game Class Rules: *While every reasonable effort will be made by the teacher to ensure exercises are conducted in a safe manner, this is an online dance course and parents should be nearby their dancers to monitor their activity and to ensure their safety. *Dancers need to leave their cameras on for the entire lesson. *Dancers should wear form-fitting attire that allows them to move freely. Leggings and a tank top work well if you are not ready to purchase dance attire. *All dancers should be respectful of each other and of the learning environment. *Have fun and learn something new! Please note: *By enrolling in this course, the dancer and dancer's legal guardian agree that the dancer meets the prerequisites for the course. They further understand that there are risks inherent to any physical activity and they agree to assume full responsibility for any risks, injuries or damage known or unknown that the dancer might incur as a result of participating in this online course. *After much research and trial and error, the teacher has chosen to use two cameras, a microphone, and a mixer as the tech set-up for this class. This protects the quality of the audio and controls for some latency, as rhythm and musicality are extremely important in the study of dance. Dancers are expected to participate in Zoom's "Gallery View" at all times. Not only does this allow students to see both of the teacher's cameras (one is full body), this is an interactive class that encourages students to interact and learn from one another in addition to the teacher. This is a critical component of classroom learning. Your dancer may find that he or she wants to pin the full-body video and mirror a tablet to the TV to get the best online classroom experience. *It is the teacher's policy not to share classroom recordings. *All information in this course description and the course itself is the sole intellectual property of the teacher.
Learning Goals
Dancers will learn and practice the foundational steps of ballet and tap dance.

Parental Guidance
As dance is a physical activity in addition to an art, adults should be nearby to supervise class completion in a safe area. While the instructor will take all reasonable measures to explain how to safely execute each exercise, this is an online course and it will require some adult supervision to minimize risk to the young dancer.
Supply List
Please come to class from a safe space clear of any obstacles. It is best to not take ballet class on carpet, as toes may stick and injury may occur even when wearing socks or ballet shoes. Ideally, dancers will attend class from an area with a hard floor and ballet shoes so as to limit injury during the ballet portion of the class. Hard floors with bare feet may also be acceptable for ballet, but dancers will need to exercise care to prevent injury.Tap shoes will allow dancers to properly hear their sounds for tap class. Tap shoes can damage the flooring in your home, however. (You might want to throw down a piece of plywood in an open space so that your dancer may experience a full tap class without damaging your floor!) Class attire should be form-fitting so that the teacher can correct placement, but clothing should not restrict movement. Leggings and a tank top work well if you don't feel ready to purchase dance attire! If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask!
