Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn the five basic ballet positions of the arms and feet, basic ballet steps (plié, tendu, passé), basic jazz steps (jazz walks, box step, chassé), and the fundamental principles of dance: body awareness, balance, flexibility, and rhythm. Students should recognize steps and positions by name.
Ballet and Jazz shoes are recommended but not required for this course. Dancers should always have drinking water close at hand for this class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed quarterly in the last week of the month (March, June, September, and December). Skills will be rated as "Excellent", "Good", or "Needs Improvement"in addition to a short written report on student improvement. Recommendations for future courses will also be given at this time. If parents prefer to forego formal assessment for their learner, please inform instructor. Students will also receive verbal feedback during the course of class.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This is a physical activity class. This class will include cardiovascular exercise and will utilize a wide range of motion. Class will include a brief warm-up and cool down, through additional measures should be left up to parent discretion. If your student has an existing injury or physical condition, please use caution when making decisions regarding this course and be sure to communicate these conditions to the instructor prior to class. Please be sure to clear sufficient open space so that your student has space to stretch and move. Be sure to clear all loose items from the floor. If you elect to attend class from your backyard or another outdoor space, be sure to wear protective footwear.
