CLASS STRUCTURE: In this workshop we will explore the fundamentals of Ballet technique and establish the basic Ballet vocabulary progressively throughout the four weeks. We will start from the very basics (establishing the basic ballet positions) and move towards more advanced exercises such as turns and leaps. All classes will start on the floor, warming up the body and establishing alignment and good posture. Then we will progress through barre exercises such as plies, tendus, rond de jambes etc. (you can use a wall/ chair/ any piece of furniture around waist-height, accessible in your home). Then the class will resume with center exercises such as adagio, simple pirouette exercises and petit allegro. Finally, in the end of every class we will be developing a short solo which we will perform all together in the final workshop day. There will be time allocated for discussion and questions in order for students to gain understanding of the dance discipline through the lens of ballet. THE MATERIAL AND CHOREOGRAPHY TAUGHT IN THIS WORKSHOP IS DIFFERENT EVERY TIME IT IS OFFERED, SO THE SAME STUDENTS CAN TAKE IT MULTIPLE TIMES. EXPERIENCE: No experience needed to participate, we will start from the very basics and progress through more complex things gaging and adjusting to the level of the group every time. If you are not sure if this class is right for your level or age do not hesitate to reach out and I will make sure we find the best fit that will serve your learner's individual needs. SCHOLARSHIPS & DISCOUNTS: (Please contact me for more info on how to apply for either of these offerings): -All BIPOC students interested in my classes automatically receive a 50% discount off of every class they attend. -If you are experiencing recent loss of income due to the Covid-19 pandemic and are unable to afford any of my classes, please don't hesitate to reach out and I will make any necessary adjustments to make the classes affordable to you. -Mentorship scholarships are available for dancers demonstrating exceptional drive and commitment in their classes. MAKING DANCE ACCESSIBLE: -These classes are for ALL and ANY bodies interested in investigating movement. If your learner has a disability feel free to contact me in advance and we can discuss ways we can make them accessible to them. -Language: English doesn't have to be your first language to take any of these classes nor do you need to be proficient in it (In fact it's not my first language either!). Just make sure you let me know in advance so that I find other creative ways to communicate with your learner as they are taking the class. Please refer to my profile for Frequently Asked Questions.
Learning Goals

Just a few logistics before we get started:
It is nice to join the zoom meeting a few minutes early (if possible, otherwise no worries) so that I can help you with your setup. Just make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes (if you have ballet attire, that's great, but if not that is totally fine). Find a room with some space to move (you may have to move some furniture around and make sure there is no cords or things you might trip over) and place your device on the floor so I can see your full body as you are moving. Other than that you are all set and ready to get moving!
Supply List
-Soft ballet shoes (if accessible) or socks -Water bottle (if desirable) -Comfortable clothing -Ballet barre (If you don't have a barre you can use a wall/ chair/ any piece of furniture around waist-height, accessible in your home)
