Who is This Class For: This class is for beginners and no ballet or dance experience is required. What is This Class/What Will Be Taught: This class is designed for beginner ballet students and will take students through a variety of combinations to practice new ballet terminology and steps while focusing on completing steps with proper technique. This class focuses on classical ballet technique and each week students will progress through combinations (some that repeat and some new ones)...
-Students will improve their understanding of ballet steps and technique -Students will understand how to complete steps properly and safely -Students will learn ballet vocabulary and practice pronunciation of ballet terms and the definitions -Students will practice learning and performing choreography as they will perform 2 dances during the small recital on Week 12 of the class. -Students will practice musicality through ballet improv exercises
I have been dancing for about 19 years and was trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, and lyrical/contemporary. I have performed in various roles such as Sugarplum Fairy and Dew Drop in the Nutcracker and Wendy in Peter Pan. I have been teaching ballet since 2018. Prior to that I worked as a student teacher from 2012-2016 and a substitute dance teacher from 2016-2018. From 2018-2020 I was the Artistic Director/Executive Director for my colleges Ballet Company where I was tasked with choreographing/organizing performances and teaching classes.
Students should continue to practice the ballet terminology, pronunciation, and ballet steps outside of class time. Students should review choreography outside of class time.
-For the ballet barre portion of this class it is recommended that students use a ballet barre or something sturdy for students to hold on to such as a chair, counter, or table. -Wear comfortable exercise clothes that you can dance in such as tank top or t-shirt and leggings or ballet skirt and leotard and tights. (please no crop top) -If student wears a dress, they must have shorts or leggings under -Water close by for breaks
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
During class, I will provide students with feedback regarding the pronunciation of the ballet words and about the ballet steps to ensure they are completing each step properly and safely.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
-To prevent injury it is recommended that students are supervised during the class. -For this dance class it is important that students are able to safely move in an open and safe environment with no toys or other objects around that could cause injury. -Comfortable clothing such as leotard/tights/ballet skirt or athletic attire such as leggings/sweatpants/t-shirt (please no crop tops or sports bra). -Ballet shoes are recommended but not required (please no socks). *By signing up for this class you understand that dance, like any physical activity, involves some risk and take responsibility for any physical injury that may occur during class.*
