In this course, we will make Noel Streatfeild's Ballet Shoes come to life by discussing the characters (such as Great Uncle Matthew, Posy, Petrova, Pauline, Garnie, Nana, the boarders, etc) and main themes such as talent, hard work, ballet, friendship, competition, sacrifice, the meaning of family, and so much more! Week 1: We will learn about the author, Noel Streatfeild, and start reading Chapter 1 in class Homework: Read Chapters 1-4 Week 2: We will discuss Chapters 1-4, their last name of Fossil, and the background of the three main characters (Pauline, Petrova, and Posy). Why is Fossil their last name? Homework: Read Chapters 5-7 Week 3: We will discuss Chapters 5-7 Homework: Read Chapters 8-11 Week 4: We will discuss Chapters 8 - 11 Homework: Read Chapters 12-15 Week 5: We will discuss Chapters 12-15 Homework: Read Chapters 16-19 Week 6: We will discuss Chapters 16-19, how the book ended with Gum's return and what happened to the main characters, what we thought of the book as a whole, and if we would recommend Ballet Shoes to others. This class is a great way to learn about British literature and have a fun time meeting new friends and learning about the characters in this loved book. *Subject to change.

Parental Guidance
The book is about three orphans (Pauline, Petrova, and Posy) who were adopted but do not have much money. Boarders come to live at their house, and when given the opportunity to make more money through performing ballet, they take lessons to help their guardian (Sylvia Brown also called Garnie).
