Ballet Prep is meant to be an introduction to the basics of dance technique boiled down to the physical and behavioral abilities of four and five year old children. I am a former professional ballet dancer, having danced with Hartford Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet. I have taught ballet to children ages three to adult for over 20 years. I developed the early childhood program for Miami City Ballet. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with Reading and Natural Science Specializations, a Master's degree in Elementary Education, AMS Montessori Primary Certification, and am about to finish a second Master's with Montessori and Gifted/Talented Education specializations. I am also trained in Music Together, LLC music education, Level 1 YogaMusic and Level 1 BrainGym.
To get the most out of this class children should have the following close by: 1-Parental Supervision. (See Parental Guidance Above) 2-Ample room to move without bumping into furniture and walls. 3-Movement scarf no longer than their full arm span. A scarf 24 by 24 inches is perfect. Movement scarves are easily obtained online or made 4-A bean bag that fits in the child's hand. This is easily obtained online or made. 5-Comfortable clothing to move in: shorts and shirt are fine, leotard is ideal. Tights are optional. No skirts, tutus, leg warmers or costumes please. 6-Bare feet or leather ballet shoes.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Please note that parental supervision will be needed to ensure your child is moving safely within your home space and using movement scarves and bean bags safely and at the proper times. Ample space for large movement should be available away from sharp corners and extra furniture. Children should be barefoot or in leather ballet shoes so they do not slip on wood or tile flooring. Children should be wear comfortable clothing they can move easily in without getting tangled in fabric. Leotard and tights with no skirt is ideal. No costumes or tutus are allowed due to the distraction of the clothing. If parents to not take these precautions, children can fall or bump into walls and furniture. The teacher can not be held responsible for lack of parental supervision.
