Upon teacher recommendation, Pointe Readiness Assessments are available (by 30-minute private lesson with me) for my students who have taken this class consistently for at least 1 year. After successfully completing the assessment, a dancer will be invited to move into my Beginner Pointe Barre Class. HOWEVER, if I am not your primary ballet teacher, you must still get approval from your main teacher before beginning pointe work with them.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
Intermediate Level
This class is designed for dancers who are preparing to transition to pointe work. Through a targeted blend of strength training, flexibility exercises, and ballet-specific conditioning, students will focus on building the foundational strength and alignment needed for safe and successful pointe work. Emphasis is placed on foot and ankle strength, core stability, and proper alignment of the legs and body. Students will also engage in exercises that enhance balance, turnout, and overall body awareness. This class is ideal for dancers aiming to build the physical strength and technique required for pointe work, or for those recently promoted to pointe who may need extra support in specific areas. This class is intended to be supplemental to your regular weekly ballet training. >>This class is best viewed on a large screen. It is recommended that dancers use a device that can be connected to a tv or large monitor. >>Pre-Pointe Conditioning is offered at several times each week. You may enroll in more than one class, if faster results are desired. Consider private lessons for a specialized conditioning plan. Each class will cover the following: - Warmup - Strength and Alignment Exercise Drills - Calf Strength Exercise Drills - Stretch and Flexibility Exercise Drills - Foot Strength and Shaping Drills - Balance Drills - Turnout Drills Students will work continuously throughout the class with short breaks between drills. This class uses pre-recorded exercise examples (by me) with written instructions (to accommodate different learning styles). I will talk through and explain each exercise drill, then give students a set amount of time to finish each drill. We will cover some of the same drills each week. New drills will be introduced throughout the section as students are ready. I will closely observe each student during drills and offer immediate verbal corrections on placement and expectations, if needed. Having the pre-recorded examples helps me spend quality time on observing and offering feedback, rather than demonstrating - and students can actively see what they need to do during each drill (great for students who have difficulty remembering combinations). Don't see a time that works? Reach out to me with a time request or check out my self-paced Pre-Pointe Conditioning Class with teacher support. >> This class is becoming popular. (Thanks everyone!) For this reason, paused students risk potentially lose their spot in this class if more students enroll during your paused weeks and the class becomes full.
Learning Goals
Improve strength and flexibility in legs and feet
Gain awareness of and improve alignment throughout the body

Parental Guidance
Parents are responsible for the safety of their student/s. A space of at least 4 feet by 4 feet must be clear of any trip hazards or dangerous objects. Proper footware required.
Health & Safety:
You understand that dance and physical exercise carry inherent risks of injury. You should consult with a physician or healthcare professional before beginning any physical activity to ensure that it is appropriate for your fitness level and personal health.
Personal Responsibility:
You are responsible for creating a safe and appropriate environment for your participation, including wearing proper attire, using non-slippery surfaces, and ensuring adequate space. If at any point you feel discomfort, dizziness, or pain, you should stop immediately and seek medical advice.
Instruction & Modifications:
While the instructor provides guidance and modifications, it is your responsibility to gauge your ability to perform the exercises. Any modifications or variations are to be performed at your own risk.
Waiver of Liability:
By engaging in these online classes, you waive any and all claims against the instructor, the company, or any associated parties for injuries, damages, or losses that may occur from your participation in the class, whether caused by negligence or otherwise.
Intellectual Property:
The content provided in this class is for personal use only. Reproduction, distribution, or unauthorized sharing of class materials is prohibited without written consent.
Class Size Minimum:
If the class size minimum is not met, the class may still be held but finish early, depending on the material covered for each lesson. Fewer students often results in moving through the lesson much faster. The class fee, however, remains the same, because the same amount of material is being covered during each lesson. (OR) Students may be combined from multiple sections of the same class into one class time, creating one full class instead of several partially-filled classes. You will be notified in advance if this second option is required. I understand that a schedule change may interfere with other classes you are taking on Outschool.
Pre-Requisites
A minimum of 3 years of formal ballet training required. Enrollment in a minimum of 2 hours of intermediate ballet per week recommended for best results in your pre-pointe journey.
Supply List
Students will need: - Ballet shoes or barefoot - Fitted ballet attire where the knees and hip alignment can be seen (leggings are okay) - Hair pulled back away from the face - Cleared space for dancing (at least 4' x 4') - Ballet barre or the back of a tall chair, counter, etc - A camera angle that allows the teacher to see the full body from head to toe to check for proper ballet alignment and posture Optional Items: - Bean Bag, or pair of socks or t-shirt, rolled (calf-strength exercises) - Turning Disc (for turnout exercises) - Foot Stretcher (for ankle flexibility)
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Associate's Degree in Science from Tidewater Community College
I have been teaching pre-pointe conditioning and beginner pointe in the studio for several years with a high success rate of getting students safely into pointe shoes who have the necessary calf and foot strength, are properly aligned, and are truly ready. Typically, high-intermediate ballet students who take a minimum of 2-3 hours of ballet technique class each week, will stay in my pre-pointe class 1-2 years before promotion to pointe, if taking once per week. Actual student results will vary.
