Class Experience

In this dance class, students will be introduced to classical Ballet in a fun, interactive, and educational environment through online learning. Together we will cover the basic fundamentals of Ballet, as well as French terminology, classical movement and methodology, followed by the importance of recovery and safe stretch. At the beginning of class we will cover the basic positions of the feet and arms, simple barre work including plié, tendu, jete, and rond de jambe, as well as the French meaning behind these movements. Once the student has accomplished these steps, we will move on to center work. In the center, the student will learn how to find correct balance and placement while performing a series of turns, jumps, and movement that travels across the floor. To end class we will take time to safely stretch and learn how to take care of our bodies after we dance!

This class is intended as an introduction to Ballet and learners will follow along with the instructor at a comfortable pace. No previous experience is necessary. Any questions or comments will be answered during class time

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!

My name is Ms. Emily and I live in the Chicago area dancing, performing, and teaching ballet professionally. I began teaching a variety of dance classes for youth ages 3-22 over twelve years ago. From Pre-Ballet to Pre-Professional, I’ve taught it all, enjoying every step of the way. Im so grateful to Outschool for giving me the opportunity to connect with students globally and make a difference in every virtual meeting!

My teaching style is threefold: encouraging, imaginative, and productive. I love opening the floor for questions and to further help students understand the intention, mechanics, and history behind each step. Knowing the how’s and why’s is the key to becoming your own artist and building confidence and trust in your body. Dance is my passion and it is my hope and priority to provide a fun, mindful, and interactive learning experience for all learners and students of any age and level!

After graduating I was accepted by audition to a Chicago ballet company, where I have performed and toured the nation professionally since 2016 as a Solo Artist. During this time I have also directed a pre-professional program geared towards advancing the serious student, teaching a variety of classes nation-wide, choreographing, and coordinating performance opportunities in both community spaces and professional stages.

In addition to this I am professionally certified in Progressing Ballet Technique and have an extensive background in the study of beginning thru advanced ballet, pre-pointe, and pointe work, as well as experience in teaching modern, jazz, improv, and choreography. You name it, I teach it! I am dedicated to furthering my own knowledge daily to best help your student succeed.

Above all my desire is to offer high quality training in an accessible and modern-age environment. I also believe one-to-one mentoring in the arts is important and should be affordable and available to everyone. I’m dedicated to helping bring small and low-income communities professional training to the comfort and convenience of your own home. In addition to this, online classes can be a perfect supplement to your weekly training - Enjoy the benefits of multiple teachers and perspectives! My classes are short and sweet, designed to be supplemental to the training your student already receives. For a full list of classes offered, please reach out to me directly to get started. *I am happy to provide more information regarding financial aid, private class opportunities, and how to best supplement your in-person training with online classes.*

In my free time I like to explore the city of Chicago, travel the world, and spend time baking, cooking, and trying new recipes.
