In this 6-week course, students will be introduced to the technique, vocabulary, and poise of ballet
Class experience
Students will be taught ballet positions, basic technique and vocabulary (such as plié, relevé, sauté), and how to exhibit poise. We will work to perform combinations and build strength and flexibility. The students will receive information on how to practice and get better at ballet on their own at home. I am a Dance coach for the Arkansas School district in which I am employed. I teach them technique skills, as a previous dancer myself. I took ballet from the ages 3-17 years old. I also participated in Ballet performances, such as the nutcracker. Now, as a dance coach, I teach ballet and barre to my dance team to ensure they have the proper core and body control required for dance team. I have a coaching certificate for AR as a "teacher coach".
Ballet is physically taxing and requires adequate space to move. Please ensure the student is in a space where they are free to move. It will require adequate stretching beforehand, which we will do together as a class. There is potential for injury whenever someone participates in physical activity, especially if they do not have the proper supervision and space. If you feel more comfortable supervising your student during class to prevent injury, you are welcome to do so! Please allow your student a water bottle for breaks. If your student has asthma or anything else that may interfere with physical activity, please let me know so I can allow them extra breaks.
