Class experience

Beginner Level
Ballet students will build a foundation of ballet technique that will allow them to either pursue more advanced classes or simply improve their confidence, body awareness, strength, posture, and flexibility.
I am a Licensed Zumba, Zumba Kids, and Zumba Kids jr. Instructor and have taught Zumba classes for four years. I have also taught ballet for over 10 years. I enjoy teaching dance classes in diverse, inclusive settings. I am a NYS certified Early Childhood and Special Education teacher with self-contained and general education classroom experience. My self-contained experience is mainly with students with Autism, ADHD, and speech impairments. I have a passion for working in inclusive settings with students who are neurotypical and neurodiverse.
Homework Offered
Assessments Offered
There will be no formal assessment from our Beginner Ballet Class.
Grades Offered
I am Neurodiverse myself and a Certified General and Special Education Teacher. This ballet class is built for students who are neurotypical and neurodiverse. I incorporate both visual and verbal instructions with optional modifications.
Children 5-6: choose this ballet class if they have moderate-strong gross-motor skills (able to march, skip, etc.) and experience with Zoom classes. If your child is new to Zoom and needs to work on those skills, choose "Intro to Ballet"
Appropriate attire for ballet class:
-Comfortable pants/t-shirt
-Leggings and a tank top
-Leotard and tights

Appropriate footwear for ballet class:
-Ballet slippers
-Sneakers
-Socks
-Bare feet

Ballet students should have a glass or bottle of water within reach during class. No ballet barre.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Be sure that ballet students are head-to-toes on camera when standing. Students should have water, room to move, comfortable clothing, and appropriate footwear (make sure they can move and dance in what they are wearing). Students can wear ballet slippers, sneakers, socks, or bare feet.

Parents may want to remain close by during ballet class to encourage attention and help with any technology issues that might arise.

If any technological issues arise during class (ex: teacher is inaudible), parents can send me a message in the chat on Zoom and I will do my best to resolve the issue.

If a family has any special needs, comments, or concerns before or after ballet class they can feel free to send me a private message on Outschool and I will do my best to accommodate to your satisfaction within 48 hours.

This ballet class is great for students who are neurotypical, neurodiverse, have Autism, ADHD, speech impairments, dyslexia, Down Syndrome, and many other disability classifications.

Some students take this class for a few years before "moving up" to the next level, other students are ready after a couple of months--each child is different. Feel free to send me a private message to ask about your child's progress in class or you can evaluate by asking yourself these questions:
-Is my child having fun in class?
-Does my child have the names of most of the basic steps memorized? Ex: Plié, tendu, echappé, passé
-Does my child follow along during class with little or no prompting?
-Does my child stand with tall posture during the majority of class?
-Is my child able to take feedback and apply it to their dancing? Ex: If the teacher says "Keep your shoulders down" or "Keep your knees to the side"
-Can my child balance on relevé (tippy toes) for 20-30 seconds at a time?
-Can my child coordinate some of the more complicated steps? Ex: ballet walks, pas de bourré, pas de chat, etc.
-Would my child be able to maintain focus for a longer class?
