Class experience

Intermediate Level
This class is taught in English.
Ballet II (Intermediate Ballet) students will:
-Improve their understanding of basic ballet stretches, as well as improve their flexibility
-Learn about and demonstrate "proper ballet technique" (ex: tall posture, working stomach muscles, pointed toes, no "sickling" of feet, etc.)
-Demonstrate an understanding of safety while dancing and stretching (ex: turning out from hips not knees)
-Build upon their existing knowledge of ballet to increase the complexity of steps
-Improve their ability to count the beats in music, notice fast vs. slow tempos, and move accordingly
-Demonstrate focus and discipline during class (ex: listening and practicing while combinations are taught)
-Cultivate a growth mindset focused on the self and not comparison to or competition with others
-Build a fun and positive community with their ballet-dance loving peers :)
I am a Licensed Zumba, Zumba Kids, and Zumba Kids jr. Instructor and have taught Zumba classes for four years. I have also taught ballet for over 10 years. I am a NYS certified Early Childhood and Special Education teacher with self-contained and general education classroom experience. My self-contained experience is mainly with students with Autism, ADHD, and speech impairments. I have a passion for working in inclusive settings with students who are neurotypical and neurodiverse.
Homework Offered
Ocassionally, after Ballet II (Intermediate Ballet) there will be suggested exercises/ballet steps posted on the classroom page with the option to share their photos or responses in the comments or to send them to me directly. These challenges will take 15-30 minutes each week.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Our Ballet II (Intermediate Ballet) class will have no formal assessment.
Grades Offered
I am Neurodiverse myself and a Certified General and Special Education Teacher. This ballet class is built for students who are neurotypical and neurodiverse. I incorporate both visual and verbal instructions with optional modifications.
Pre-Reqs for Intermediate Ballet are listed in detail in the class description. Please read carefully and send me a message with any questions. If you are unsure if your child will be a good fit, feel free to try a class and see.
*Intermediate Ballet Students must have a water bottle or full glass of water nearby during class to stay hydrated*
Materials:
-Chair with a back or portable ballet barre (to hold lightly for balance)

Optional Attire:
-Leotard and tights or a well-fitting t-shirt with leggings, shorts, or well-fitting sweatpants
-Long hair pulled back into a bun
-Well-fitting ballet slippers (on-camera, black ballet slippers tend to be more visible)

**For safety reasons: NO POINTE SHOES!**

If your child does not have the materials or proper attire, don't worry! Accomodations will be made to help your child participate fully.
Be sure that ballet students are head-to-toes on camera when standing. Students should have water, room to move, comfortable clothing, and appropriate footwear. Ballet students can wear ballet slippers, sneakers, socks, or bare feet.

Parents may want to remain close by during ballet class to encourage attention and help with any technology issues that might arise. Just remember that adults are not to be visible on-camera.

If any technological issues arise during class (ex: teacher is inaudible), parents can send me a message in the chat on Zoom and I will do my best to resolve the issue.

This intermediate ballet class is great for students who are neurotypical, neurodiverse, have Autism, ADHD, speech impairments, dyslexia, Down Syndrome, and many other disability classifications.

If a family has any special needs, comments, or concerns before or after class they can feel free to send me a private message on Outschool and I will do my best to accommodate to your satisfaction within 48 hours.

I will gladly make accomodations/modifications to help each learner. Examples of modifications/accomodations include:
-Setting up a time for a short one-on-one session before their first class to prepare them
-Increasing or decreasing my verbal feedback during class (ex: I can refrain from giving "negative feedback" and focus solely on positives)
-Breaking down steps more for your child to work on one aspect at a time (ex: focus on arms for a step one week and feet the next)
-Allowing students to have their camera off while they practice new steps

Please reach out with any requests. I truly try my best to make my class as accessible as possible for students.
