Ballerina Book Club

In this ongoing class, the students will listen to a fiction story about Ballet/ Dance. The stories will be read with fluency and expression with chances for the students to interact with the text and make predictions about what will happen next. We will talk about the author and illustrator. We will identify the parts of the book including the front cover, back cover, spine, and title page. We will discuss reading the words as well as reading the pictures to gain a better understanding. The students will learn why it is important to retell a story in the correct order including the beginning, middle, and end; identify key characters, and the setting of the book.  They will apply reading comprehension skills as they are relevant to each story including: making predictions, asking questions, retelling the story, drawing connections to the text, visualizing the story, drawing conclusions, and synthesizing the information.  Each class will feature a new fiction story so students are welcome to join the class at any time. 

As time allows, we will review the Ballet terms/movements used in the books by practicing the movements ourselves. Let's laugh, twirl, and plie along with the characters in these tales and develop our love for dance and reading together!
