50 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. The class time might not allow for all of the sugar cookies to be decorated. You can continue on your own to finish decorating all the cookies. If you want to write a message on the cookie, you will have to wait for it to dry first.Class Experience
In this one-time course, students will learn how to decorate their own delicious and beautiful cookies. They will be picture-perfect! Students MUST bring their own pre-baked and cooled cookies for class. I recommend sugar cookies or gingerbread cookies. They can be in any shape! If you're not sure what shape to make, I recommend simple circle cookies. They must also bring pre-made or pre-bought royal icing. In this interactive class, we will first pick and create three or four colors that we want to use for the icing. Next, we will carefully outline the cookies and then "flood" them with icing. Students will also learn about the "wet-on-wet" technique to make polka dots and the "feathering" technique. The teacher will be modeling each step with learners as we go through the cookie decorating process. More decorating designs could include swirls, trees, snowflakes, or layering. Let me know if you have any questions!

I have a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education, from George Mason University. I also hold a valid Elementary Education professional teaching license in Virginia. In my free time, I enjoy baking, going on walks with my rescue pup, Tuula, and traveling. So far, I have traveled to 30 countries, even teaching in Uganda and Ukraine!
