In this baking class, students will learn math, science and reading instructions. Students may need supervision with equipment, stove and oven. The technique of baking from scratch will be more difficult but is very rewarding. We will learn how to read a recipe, baking terms and prepping. We will learn time management as we will prepare recipes. I think your avid baker will enjoy this challenge. In Class One: Bring your recipes, paper or notebook and pencil/pen. We will go over each recipe and make lists of equipment and items needed. We will discuss how we make each recipe. We will learn new words such as dry and wet ingredients. In Classes Two, Three and Four: We will make a recipe in each class. I will let the bakers vote in class one as to the order we bake each one. I also offer another class at this time that ties into Hershey Chocolate. If you are interested in learning more, look for my “Who was Milton Hershey” class offering.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to use math, reading and time management skills in this cooking class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from University of Tennessee
I love to bake and have sold/donated my cakes for many years. I cook the “grandma” recipes that taste great but may look more old fashioned to younger students. My grandmother taught me one of these recipes when I was young so it is very special to me. I taught my daughter to bake when she was little and taught cooking classes for young people as well. I love that we add in history, science and math in a hands-on class.
