Description
Class Experience
Students will learn how to make delicious bread for their family. Each student will have a chance to bake their own bread and hopefully develop a life long passion of baking! Students will also learn how yeast works to make our bread rise.
The learner will have to bake their bread themselves as we will not have the opportunity to finish the bread during class time.
For this recipe, you will need: 6 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour or Harvest King® or Better for Bread® bread flour 3 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon salt 2 tablespoons shortening (butter or crisco) 2 packages regular or quick active dry yeast 2 1/4 cups very warm water (120°F to 130°F) Butter or margarine, melted
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The student will post a picture of their final loaf of bread.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Some parental help may be needed before class (such as getting out ingredients and measuring supplies.) During class, we will be working with hot water. The water will be hot tap water. After class, the student may need help putting the bread into the oven and taking it out. Please note that this recipe includes wheat and butter.
