Class Experience

Scones are a delicious treat, and great to grab on-the-go for breakfast. These are perfect to pair with tea or coffee. This recipe is great for bakers who would like to learn new techniques and improve their skills. In this one-time class, students will learn how to follow a recipe step-by-step and use various techniques to make scones. I like to add plenty of educational opportunities in my lessons, so students will learn fun facts about scones, food science, and why it is important to follow a recipe. Students will learn how ingredients interact and why. We will go over food safety and handling to ensure food is properly prepared. Since we will be using the oven and a knife, we will also go over kitchen safety. Students will have opportunities to ask/answer questions, and to share their finished product at the end of class. The wonderful thing about this recipe is that it can be easily customized so students can use add-ins and flavors of their choice. If students would like to make these scones again, I will post the recipe on the classroom page after class is complete. *Note: parents are encouraged to help with this lessons if students need an extra hand. For student safety, it is Outschool policy for parents to remain off camera for the duration of the class. Thank you!

Learning Goals

My goal is to teach students life skills by being able to follow recipes to make food from scratch and to handle food safely. They will learn how to use an oven, pay close attention to details, proper food handling, measuring, and using ovens/knives safely.

**I am taking a break from teaching. Hopefully I will be back within the next couple of months! Please check back for new postings. Thank you!**

Hello everyone! Creating art is one of my favorite things to do, and I have lots of fun teaching all different kinds. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and have been teaching art professionally for over 6 years. I’ve worked with children in a variety of settings including nannying, volunteering at summer camps, teaching art, local Parks & Recreation, and public schools. Children have different learning styles and abilities, so I tailor my lessons to fit individual needs. Most importantly, I encourage children to use their imaginations and have fun! My goal is to help students build confidence and to think in new ways. The classes I teach include making felt toys, doll accessories, baking, and sewing. I live in Oregon and I love spending time outdoors hiking. Nature has always inspired me, and I love to collect rocks and gems too! I look forward to sharing some fun art projects with you!
