Class Experience

The kids will complete a fun and engaging Baking Mania Escape Room with me that is easy to navigate. We will answer and go over questions (including real-life problems involving baking, mixing, and fractions) that will review their 3rd-4th grade math knowledge including but not limited to multiplication, addition and subtraction of larger whole numbers, fractions and easy fraction concepts with baking, as well as word problems that they have to solve and complete in the escape room. All questions will align with the state learning standards for mathematics for 3rd-4th graders.

Students will engage with me and other students in solving the problems, taking turns answering questions (and sharing their answer) and using the chat box to also engage with me in providing me feedback on their answer.

Optional: I encourage the kids to come DRESSED up if they would like as an CHEF and come have fun with me with it! =)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Anna Hwang, and I used to teach secondary math (secondary education endorsement grades 6-12 and masters degree in curriculum and instruction). Professionally I have worked in the classroom for 2 years before having my own kids (ages 6 and 8). I have also tutored kids of all ages but especially have worked with kids 15 - 18 years old in the subject areas of Algebra, Algebra 2, Geometry, & Trigonometry, and ACT/SAT prep for mathematics. I have also worked for many tutoring companies (including Huntington, ACT/SAT prep) before before private tutoring myself. I really enjoy working with kids one on one and developing a trusting relationship with them through the learning of mathematics and helping them to feel confident in math.

Pre-COVID, I also volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and a youth group leader at my church and have experience working with kids for the past 10 years. Now as a mom to my own two kids, I have a whole new perspective to teaching altogether.

During this trying time, I felt a calling to step up and help kids of all ages feel successful and to have FUN with math learning. My own kids were remotely learning for a year and at times I see the struggle of teachers trying to teach math online. I want to step up and help and offer support the only way I know how. I am intrigued by this new world of ONLINE teaching and am excited to start my own journey back into teaching. I want ALL kids to feel encouraged and to have FUN and engaged with each lesson. I will try my best to create an online environment that supports ALL kids and help them further their understanding with math concepts.

Aside from teaching mathematics, I also have a passion for art, dance, and music.

Thank you for giving me a chance to teach your kids!
