Over 4 weeks we will read chapters (outside of class) of Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, and come to class to discuss what we've read, then prepare delicious bakes inspired by the book. Each week we will meet to: -discuss the chapters we've read (outside of class). -bake a treat from the story together, to bring the novel to life in a whole new way. -share our scenes from the book. -share our thoughts on the characters and how they develop and change over the course of the novel. Learners will need to read the assigned chapters each week before meeting to discuss in class.
The specific recipes for class will be shared in our classroom, below is a general list of ingredients we'll use throughout the course. All-Purpose Flour Brown sugar White sugar Powdered Sugar Unsalted butter Salt Baking powder Baking soda Eggs Milk Cocoa powder Buttermilk Vegetable/canola oil Cinnamon Corn starch Vanilla Potato chips, chocolate chips, pretzels Refrigerated box of 2-pie crusts (the kind that come rolled up) Blueberries- fresh or frozen Cooking spray Materials: Baking sheet Parchment paper Mixing bowls Oven-safe skillet Whisk Slotted spoon or tongs Measuring cups Measuring spoons Large mixing spoon Soft spatula Fork or toothpick Hand Mixer/ or stand mixer/ or a strong arm
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Allergies-All recipes are nut-free, but please look over the listed ingredients to avoid any allergens that may effect your child. Parents will be required to help out on all the parts of our baking project that include heat. Additional assistance guidance- it will be helpful for each family to decide how best to support their baker during the class, based on experience and age.
