Class Experience

As students follow along with me, they will learn necessary measurements in baking, creating a filling for baklava, buttering and layering phyllo leaves, carefully spreading the almond or walnut mixture in layers, and learn how to prepare a sweet syrup to apply on baked baklava.

Students will need to have had experience using a stove for cooking the syrup, a knife to slice baklava, and experience using an oven for baking the baklava.

At the end of this class, your child will come away with a tray of 60 diamond-shaped pieces of delicious Baklava and about a 1/4 cup of extra Baklava syrup. This Baklava does very well refrigerated or frozen if stored in an air-tight container. The syrup can be stored for 1 month in the refrigerator.

This class is inclusive, which means students of all abilities are welcome. If your student needs any accommodations please let me know and we will work together to ensure that they have the best possible class experience.

Supply List
A detailed ingredient list will be available upon enrollment

This is a very long class! Please have a water bottle or drink nearby to sip throughout the class.

1 box of Phyllo sheets (Approx 18 sheets) found in the frozen section of the grocery store. These phyllo sheets are as THIN as TISSUE PAPER and very fragile to the touch! This is what makes Baklava so amazing: thin crispy layers of phyllo and butter....ahhhhh, I can hear the crunchy goodness! Please do not get this phyllo confused with Phyllo pastry dough which is used for pie crusts type recipes.

Honey
Almonds or Walnuts (I buy whole nuts from Costco and place them in a food chopper) Please do not use Sliced almonds
