Class Experience

During these three classes, students will make three different cookies. In each lesson they will learn how to properly read recipes, measure, and make the cookies. Each class, they will learn a new technique used in making the given cookie. This is a great introduction to baking class. Students will be able to compare different methods and skills when making cookies over the course of these three classes. In the first class we will make simple chocolate chip cookies, during the second class we will make snickerdoodle cookies, and during the third and final class we will make peanut butter cookies.

Parents should be advised that these classes do require the use of an oven and a hand mixer/stand mixer. Younger students may take this class, but they may need help from a parent. Also be advised of any food allergies that a student may have. We will be making cookies with gluten, dairy, and peanut butter. Ingredients may be swapped out accordingly if the child still wants to take the classes!

Hello! My name is Brenna and I am a certified Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. I graduated with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a minor in Child Development. For the last 6 years I have taught baking classes and ELA to grades 1-8.

In Baking 101 students will explore how to make different recipes ranging from muffins, to cookies, to no bake treats. In each lesson they will learn how to measure correctly, follow instructions clearly, and practice new techniques based on what we are making. During my lessons, the students will follow along the recipes and make the food as I do. I believe the easiest way for students to learn is in an interactive setting. First they will watch me as I complete a step to a recipe, then they will be able to practice what I have modeled for them. I will be here to guide them along the way as they get their hands dirty and navigate around the kitchen.

The best part about taking my classes is that at the end of each lesson, you will get to enjoy what you have created!

For ELA classes we will work on a variety of activities based on the grade level. Classes will range from reading comprehension units, to ongoing novel studies. These weekly lessons will help students in their ELA skills in a variety of ways.
