Description
Class Experience
Students will be able to make Welsh cakes using a traditional British recipe. They will know the four countries of the British Isles, will recognise the Union Jack flag and the Welsh flag, and know a few facts about the UK in general and Wales in particular.
Just in case your Welsh cakes aren't fully cooked in the class, you can finish cooking them afterwards. Oh yes, remember to share them with your family and friends!
Equipment: mixing bowl measuring cups/weighing scales rolling pin fork circular biscuit cutter griddle/heavy-based frying pan fish slice/palette knife (to turn the cakes over while we cook them) silicone pastry brush or piece of kitchen roll (to grease the pan or griddle) wire cooling rack Ingredients: 110g butter/ 1/2 cup 225g self raising flour/ 1 and 2/3 cup of all purpose flour plus 4 teaspoons of baking powder 85g sugar/ 1/2 cup 50g sultanas or currants/ 1/2 cup golden raisins/raisins 1 beaten egg 1/2 teaspoon mixed spice (this is very similar to pumpkin pie spice so you can use that if you like) extra flour for rolling out splash of milk just in case butter to grease the pan or griddle
I would love to see pictures of your finished Welsh cakes. Please send me some photos!
