In this one-time class, we will learn the skills needed to make brownies from scratch and how to make them look like the spellbook from Hocus Pocus. This is a great class for beginners with little to no experience with baking. However, some experience using kitchen appliances and utensils is preferred. Please note that we will be using a hot oven, so parental supervision is required. We will specifically learn: -How to read a recipe - How to identify the types of measuring cups and...
Students will learn the basics of measuring ingredients correctly, creaming butter/sugar with the mixer, and decorating brownies to resemble the spellbook from Hocus Pocus.
I've been baking since I was a third grader, and I also have a minor in culinary arts. I have also worked with kids grades K-6 in my ten years working in schools.
You will need these ingredients for the brownies. A complete list will be included upon class enrollment. butter sugar cocoa vanilla extract eggs flour black decorating gel (one is barely enough, but two is preferred) 6 Wilton candy eyes 8x8 inch square pan butter knife measuring cups and spoons rubber spatula spoon oven oven mitts hand or stand mixer hot pads cooking spray parchment paper (NOT wax paper, which can burn) scissors to cut the tip off the decorating gel(s) -(best for parents to have cut this off before class starts) Paper and pencil to draw our design
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental supervision is required as students will be using the oven, hot pans, a hand/stand mixer, and scissors.
Students can refer to my demonstration video at any time, which will be provided upon enrollment.
