Class Experience

Students will practice kitchen skills such as reading, following directions, listening, measuring, timing, and baking.They will practice using a variety of kitchen appliances and become more comfortable in the kitchen. This is a fun class with delicious results.
I have a degree in culinary arts and taught cooking and baking to students age 6 to 18 for 10 years. I currently teach a variety of baking classes on Outschool with fantastic results. 
Students should review the recipe before the class so they are familiar with the steps. They should have all of their ingredients and supplies set out prior to class time and be familiar with what each item looks like to help avoid confusion during class. We will be double checking each item prior to adding it to the mix.

The recipe is attached to the welcome message with specific measurements for each item. Basic Supply List Ingredients: • Sour cream • Vegetable oil • Eggs • Vanilla • Flour • White sugar • Cocoa powder • Semi-sweet chocolate chips • Baking powder • Salt • Baking soda • Powder sugar • Milk Supplies: • Stand mixer (not required, a hand mixer will do just fine) o Need a large bowl if using a hand mixer • Baking tins (large or small, whichever you prefer) • Baker’s Joy non-stick cooking spray (best choice but can use others or nothing at all if your pan is non-stick) • Mixing spoon • Measuring cups (both liquid and dry) • Measuring spoons • Small bowls (cereal size or smaller) • Medium sized bowl for mixing dry ingredients • Hot pads • Rubber spatula • Cooling rack or parchment paper to set the hot bread on once it comes out of the oven
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
As these are young learners, a parent is required to be in the kitchen with the student. While I expect the students to do the work, they will need help with confirming measurments and ingredients, as well as using the oven.
