Our instructors are all certified chefs, culinarians and pastry chefs who have had lots of experience learning and teaching both children and adults.
Stand Mixer or Hand Mixer with Whisk and Paddle Attachment(s) Kitchen Scale with Gram Measures (we do include cups and spoons measures as well) Parchment Paper or Silpat Cookie Sheets Small bowls Plastic wrap Rolling Pin Cookie Cutters Piping bags + Tips/Squeeze Bottle --- All Purpose Flour Granulated Sugar Light Brown Sugar Large Eggs Unsalted Butter Vanilla paste or extract Gel Food Coloring Negligible amounts: Baking powder & Salt Confectioners Sugar carton/pasteurized egg whites Or Meringue powder +++ If you are doing a vegan or no egg Royal Icing: 5-6 cups confectioners sugar 3-5 TBS milk/dairy or nut Corn syrup Gel colors
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
A little kitchen experience is very helpful for our youngest bakers, sharp tools, hot stoves, and ovens mean some of our bakers may need a little bit of supervision and/or assistance in the kitchen. This is a dessert workshop and if there are more than 6 learners enrolled, we will have two chefs; a lead chef instructor and a chef mentor in the classroom to assist with the skills. One chef will be doing the steps along with the learners with on-screen/flat lay views, and the other chef will be engaging the learners, monitoring their projects, and helping them stay on task in larger classes.
