Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
This weekly, on-going class will allow learners to engage in Science and STEM activities related to nature. Learners are encouraged to participate in classes outside in their own backyards. A backyard could be a small or large grassy space, porch, deck, sunroom, Florida Room, portico, patio or even indoors. All activities and lessons can be completed inside for learners who cannot work outside. The teacher will lead classes outside as often as the weather permits. Classes will be lead inside by the teacher when the weather is not agreeable.

Next Generation Science Standards along with the Engineering and Design Process will be the foundation for teaching. Cross-curricular concepts such as reading, writing and math will be incorporated into lessons. For example, when learners are planting seeds they will draw and write about seed growth and include measurements of the seed growth. STEM challenges will allow learners to think creatively and solve problems in a fun and interactive manner. The Engineering and Design Process will be utilized in all STEM challenges.

Summer 2024 Dates:

Additional Learning Targets will be added as the class continues. Learners may attend classes weekly or only the classes they are interested. This is an on-going subscription based class which allows flexibility for learners. Safety considerations are listed in the Parental Guidance section of this course description.

My teaching style is inclusive, hands-on and engaging. I encourage learners to participate in ways which work for them and I strive to individualize for learners and their needs. I am the class facilitator and value input from learners as I want the time to be 'our' time and not 'my' time. Learners will be encouraged to interact with me and their classmates frequently throughout each class. Discoveries and observations from each class will be shared by each learner as he/she is comfortable. This class will allow for natural learning coupled with structured time and fun will occur.
Learning Goals
Learning Targets for each class are listed in the class description.
