Welcome future Botanists! Do you love to plant vegetables in your family's garden or watch the spring flowers bloom? Maybe you have always been curious about the trees all around you. This class is perfect for those looking into the study of plants and to investigate the living beauty of the vegetation right in your own backyard. The beauty of Outschool classes is that students get to join in from around the world. So not only will students learn about the plants where they live but also from the greenery from the other students worldwide. Students will learn to identify plants based on their properties that will be shown with pictures and slides in the lesson. For class, children should try to bring a leaf, flower, or part of a plant to class with them to show the other students and learn to identify it. Be sure to get permission to gather the sample from an adult first. They can also take a picture of the plant to show if they prefer. Below is an example of what a class session could look like. 5 minutes --- introductions and gathering materials 10 minutes --- Learn how to identify plants 10 minutes --- Show and Tell- Show off your Backyard Botany (Bring a picture or part of a plant to share and learn about) 5 minutes --- Invitation to Investigate- Learn how to study more plants in the world around you.
