Class Experience

In this lesson, the young learners will observe 12 common birds found in the state of Pennsylvania. We will practice each birds’ song or call, and complete a fun math activity at the end of class stating which one is the learners' favorite. This is an introduction of bird study to younger children. We will start the class off by introducing ourselves by name and where we live. The learners will also be able to share the birds they hear and see in their own hometowns. By using video clips, pictures, and reenacting of bird calls, each learner will choose their favorite at the end of class by helping to complete a graph. We will have so much fun pretending to be each bird and sounding like them. I really enjoy having more open discussions throughout lessons, so please encourage your learner to share what they know or want to know. If your learner would like to bring a picture of a bird to class, please do!

Welcome! My name is Teacher Emily. I have been teaching for the last 10 years in many different environments. I have worked as an autistic support aid, merit badge counselor and resident camp director for the Boy Scouts of America, in addition to a young toddler and a preschool teacher. For 2 years I worked from home as an online ESL teacher for students who live in China. I am currently a Childcare Provider, Early Intervention Provider, in addition to managing and operating a school age summer camp and a respite summer camp.

I have my associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Pre-k thru 4th, my bachelor's degree in Geography, and intend on completing my master's program in Environmental Education within the next few years. I find it valuable for students to learn in an inclusive manner, that allows them to explore the environment around them while thinking outside of the box. In my courses, we will explore the topics of our earth including but not limited to: map making, map reading, natural sciences, cultural geography, physical geography, people and geography, and many more. Come learn with me!
