In this 4 week course we will have a broad outline in physics with particular emphasis on kinematic, force, and momentum equations. This class overlaps with Physics 1 which is more in-depth.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Follows Teacher-Created Curriculum
Aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
12 lessons//4 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Dimensional Analysis
Unit Conversions. Perhaps one of the single most useful skills in science
Lesson 2
Vectors and scalars
An introduction to how we measure distance, movement and time.
Lesson 3
Simple acceleration
How we measure a change in velocity
 Week 2
Lesson 4
Complex acceleration
This lesson is about combining distance and acceleration
Lesson 5
Free fall
Free fall is a special case of kinematics where the acceleration is due to the gravity near the surface of the earth.
Lesson 6
Review Kinematics
Reviewing Kinematics
 Week 3
Lesson 7
Introduction to Dynamics: Newton's three laws
Inertia, force, weight, and action/reaction pairs
Lesson 8
Simple net force
What is proportional to what? Mass, acceleration and force
Lesson 9
Friction
How do we start and stop?
 Week 4
Lesson 10
Introduction to Momentum
What is the "quantity of motion" anyway?
Lesson 11
Conservation of momentum
This lesson is about elastic an inelastic collisions
Lesson 12
Review
Let's review
  • Students will learn about the scientific method, calculation, models, and basic physics.
  • Dimensional Analysis
  • quantitative analysis
I am a science teacher with 9 years of classroom experience with tutoring and lab experience prior to that. I have a Masters of Science degree and a Masters in Education degree. I am currently teaching in Washington State and I hold a Washington State teaching license.

This class assumes a basic understanding of simple equations. For example, if a car went 30 meters in 5 seconds, what is the speed of the car?
No sensitive topics, but ballistic motion and collisions will be covered
