Description
Class Experience
Let's end the year of 1st grade :)! This class is a great addition to any homeschool setting and is ideal for children ages 5-7 who already know how to spell simple words, who can add and subtract single digits and who can read and write simple sentences independently. This class is designed using a full curriculum to teach the basics that are taught during the middle part of 1st grade. Class sizes are kept small to ensure that all learners get individualized attention within a small group...
The goal of this class is to help learners acquire the skills and knowledge aligned with first grade standards. Students will be able to estimate, identify fractions to 1/4 and identify and add coins (American). Students will be able to sound out and blend words with phonics skills learned. Students will be able to identify key vocabulary words within a story. Students will be able to write an opinion, narrative, fiction and nonfiction story and read their story back to others.
I am a credentialed K-8 teacher with over 15 years of teaching experience as a 1st grade teacher. I am passionate about helping young learners build the foundation for their education and to help establish the desire for them to be life-long learners.
No homework will be required for this class however, follow up activities will be provided for all learners that they will be encouraged to do to help solidify their learning.
Paper, pencil, crayons, markers and a white board and marker.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners will be assessed throughout each lesson by teacher observation. Learners will be expected to complete all activities during each class meeting to help establish what is being taught. If a more formal assessment is desired I am happy to provide that for you upon request.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
