In this two-day class, students will focus on letter writing. Students will learn the parts of a letter and will write a letter to their teacher. 

                 ***** DAY 1 - PARTS OF A LETTER *****
In our first day of class, students will be introduced to a letter. They will learn the different parts of a letter and will complete activities on the parts of a letter. 

 - INTRODUCTION - 
Students will read a letter that I have written to them. They will talk about what they notice about the letter. This discussion will include the structure of the letter, the content of the letter, and the parts of the letter. 

            Students will answer these questions during our discussion:
                      - Who wrote the letter?
                     - When was this letter written?
                     - What ideas are shared in the letter?

 - MINILESSON - 
I will teach a minilesson on the different parts of a letter. As I teach the minilesson, students will fill out a chart on the different parts. 

           The parts of the letter include ....
                 - Date
                 - Greeting
                 - Body of the letter
                 - Closing 
                 - Who the letter is from

 - LETTER SORT - 
Students will be shown different parts of a letter. As a group, we will sort the parts. Students will fill out a handout as we sort together. We will also discuss the parts of the letter during our sort. 

- LETTER EXAMPLE - 
Students will be given parts of a letter. Students will fill an example letter. Their job will be to write the parts into the correct place on the letter example. 

- MYSTERY LETTER GAME - 
I will show a letter. The letter will be missing who the letter is for. Students will read the letter. They will share who the letter might be for. 


                               ***** DAY 2 - WRITE A LETTER *****
In our second day of class, students will brainstorm ideas and write a letter to a teacher. 

 - INTRODUCTION - 
Students will do a review of the parts of a letter. They will be given a part of a letter. Students will share where that part belongs in the letter. I will move the parts into the correct area. At the end of the activity, we will have a completed letter .

 - MINILESSON - 
I will give a minilesson on different ideas we write in a letter. I will show an anchor chart on information that we can share in a letter. 

 - GROUP BRAINSTORMING - 
As a group, we will brainstorm ideas of what we could write in a letter to a teacher. As students share their ideas, I will write the ideas on the screen. 

- INDIVIDUAL BRAINSTORMING - 
Students will fill out a planning page for their letter. They will brainstorm what they plan to write in their letter to a teacher. 

 - WRITE A LETTER - 
I will model how to use the planning page to write a letter. Students will use their planning page to write their letter to a teacher. As students write, I will check in with each student. I will listen to ideas and assist with the writing. 

 - SHARE - 
At the end of class, students will share the letter they have written.
