What will be taught: This class will cover a basic understanding of what babysitters need to know. We will cover basic safety skills, what it looks like to work with each age group (newborns-infants, toddlers, younger kids, older kids.) We will also cover how to start a babysitting business and what being a professional looks like. Other things that will be covered are: Becoming certified, and staying calm in certain situations/keeping your cool. Week One: Safety Skills Week Two: Child Care Skills Week Three: FIND decisions making model/ Staying Calm Week Four: Working with newborns/infants Week Five: Working with small children and older children Week Six: How to run a babysitting business, Being professional, and Becoming Certified/ Wrap up Topics covered: Safety Skills, Child Care skills, FIND decisions making model, Working with newborns/infants, working with toddlers, working with small children, working with older children, How to run a babysitting business, Being professional, Staying calm, and How to become certified. How is your class structured? My class will start out with me introducing myself, taking attendance and have everyone introduce themselves, then we will go into my slides (students are welcome to take notes but not required to.) We will learn about the topic of the day, and we will talk about the short written assignment due after class. The required assignment will be a quick answer to a question that I write related to the class subject of the day. These aren’t necessarily “graded” but I will give feedback on how to improve/what they did well on. After I discuss the assignment, we will have a quick Q/A session, and then we will close class, and the student will go on and do the quick assignment :) What’s your teaching style? My teaching for this class in particular will be adopting an expert teaching style as well as using a personal model and a bit of lecturer (not boring lecture, I promise!) We will also have Q/As at the end of each lesson and also incorporate some conversations that we can have. How much will learners get to interact with you? My learners will be able to interact with me a lot! We will have conversations, have Q/As every class, and be able to answer questions!

Learning Needs
As someone who is neurodivergent, I know how important it is for classes to be sensory-friendly and easy to understand. So, I designed my class to be direct and clear, with simple short written assignments after a lesson.
Parental Guidance
We will use kahoot to make the learning fun :)

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Linnea, and I have worked with children since I was a child myself. As someone who grew up as the oldest sister/grandchild/cousin/niece/great-grandchild (I was firstborn everything as you can see haha!!) I naturally ended up as the free babysitter of the family. As I grew older, I decided to become a mother’s helper for a couple of years and try to earn some extra money to buy some American Girl dolls :). It turned out that I enjoyed it a lot! So, I decided to get my certification with the American Red Cross for babysitting, and it turned out that it did not fully prepare me for some of the situations I ended up with in babysitting, so I did a lot of trial and error! While doing babysitting freelance in Middle and High school, I became a camp counselor, dealt with all types of situations, and met all kinds of kids! I am now a senior staff member at the camp I work at and lead my second and third graders as well as guide the junior staff and give them advice. I am in college now for an education degree, and plan to become a teacher in a public school, as well as continue working for Outschool because I love it! I have dealt with many types of situations and have learned a lot and feel ready to give my advice back to the world. I love working with young teenagers and helping them find a place in this world.
