Class Experience
A “business plan vision board” is an early planning activity for when you're thinking about starting a business. There are so many things to think about so your business will be a success. The class has been increased to a length of 90 minutes (with a 5-minute break in the middle) because we'll be discussing ideas for your business and it takes a little more time to cut out images to create a display (the vision board.). I’ll guide you to choose and attach images for each section of the...
Start to think specifically about managing a business, considering some of the requirements and costs to have a babysitting business. At the end of the class, you’ll display your business plan vision board to the other learners and the teacher, if desired. After the class, you can mount it on poster board on the wall, then continue to add ideas that come to mind and ongoingly contemplate the plan.
Managing new-product marketing and business planning groups at a multinational Fortune-50 corporation was a fast-paced exciting career of mine for sixteen years. I received awards for designing innovative ways to introduce products to customers so that they wanted to buy. I was selected for a one-year international assignment leading a new-product marketing department in Maidenhead, Buckinghamshire, the UK. The company also sponsored me to complete a financial management executive education program at Duke University. A fun entrepreneurial adventure in my life was when I started a side business, creating, manufacturing, and marketing a card game about appreciating the people in our lives, and ourselves! I’m a very visual person, and I had the best time developing a vision plan for my business, which ended up making it much easier to write my detailed business plan. A few years later, I taught a seminar at a large conference to guide adults (who wanted an introduction to business planning) to use images to build a "business plan vision board.” I received one of the highest approval ratings at the conference. For Outschool, I've adapted that idea to an age-appropriate format, and for this class, I've focused on a babysitting business so the learners can easily imagine managing this business.
Keep the business plan process in mind and keep adding ideas to your business plan vision board!
1 file available upon enrollmentYou will need to prepare the following supplies and have them with you at the beginning of class: -Print the handouts. The learner will cut out and place the images during class. -Bring your adhesive mounting putty known as tac, tak, Blu Tack, Loctite Fun Tak, Scotch Mounting Putty, or Uhu Tac. The cost is approximately $3. Once you use tak, you'll wonder how you lived without it! -Be working at a desk or table big enough to spread out the four pages of the business plan, and firm enough to withstand pressing the pictures onto the paper. -If desired, have a pencil and paper for making notes.
At the end of the class, I will provide written feedback and ideas for implementing your plan.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
