Homework
1-2 hours per week. Learners will complete reflection and planning activities outside of class, such as preparing activity ideas, thinking through babysitting challenges, and setting goals for managing their own babysitting business.
Grading
No formal grading or reports are provided. Learners complete reflections and planning activities for their own growth and skill-building.

Class Experience

In this flexible, self-paced class, students will explore the essentials of babysitting, from understanding different types of children to creating fun, age-appropriate activities and managing their own babysitting "business."

With video lessons, real-life tips, and helpful downloadable guides, learners will build knowledge they can immediately apply. This course is perfect for tweens and teens who want to start babysitting, or who already have experience and want to feel even more prepared.

Each week includes:

Lesson 1:
Getting Started
 This week is all about the basics. We'll go over what you need to talk with parents about before the first time you babysit. We'll also brainstorm solutions to tricky situations and you'll have a resource page to help you stay organized with each family. You'll feel confident walking into your first babysitting job!

Lesson 2:
How to Work with All Kinds of Kiddos
 This week we're going to focus on how to support children who have different needs. We’ll talk about kids with lots of energy, quiet kids, kids who need routines, and more. Once we have an idea of different needs, we'll think about way to support all children when we're babysitting. You'll even have time to consider different scenarios and then hear my suggestions!

Lesson 3:
Activities to Do with Kids
 Now we're talking about the fun things! Games to play and activities to keep the children happy and engaged while you're there. It's broken down by age range to make it super clear for you! We’ll even talk about what to do when kids say ‘I’m bored!', because they will and you'll have a solution.

Lesson 4:
The Business of Babysitting
 This week is all about your business. We'll review how to discuss your rate, ways you can receive payment beyond cash, and when to open a bank account! We'll even review what to include on your flyer for marketing.

Learning Needs
While there are no specific reading requirements for this class, there is a lot of information. PDFs to support the information are included, and there are opportunities for learners to process what they're learning.
Parental Guidance
No parental guidance is required. All content is age-appropriate and designed for independent learners aged 12–16. Students will complete lessons at their own pace and can ask questions in the classroom if needed.
Supply List
All materials are included. Just bring a notebook or digital space to track your notes and activities.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
This class is based on the educator's professional experience. While basic safety tips are discussed, this course does not teach CPR or first aid. Families are encouraged to seek certified first aid or CPR training separately if desired.
