NOTE: *There will be no live meetings for this FLEX class* Do you want to start a babysitting business to make some money this summer? Would you like to show parents that you are ready to care for their children safely and responsibly? This flexible schedule class is perfect for a first-time babysitter who wants to learn to be a skilled, responsible, and reliable caregiver! To have a successful babysitting business you have to be a big hit with the kids, but also someone who can truly handle things while the parents are out. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is to take a training class. Aside from the important knowledge you will gain from the lessons, this babysitting preparedness course (and the certificate of completion) will look good to parents considering hiring you! You don’t need any babysitting experience to join this class! Topics will include how to safely provide care for children of all ages, what to do in an emergency, choosing age-appropriate and fun activities, how to communicate with parents and interact professionally, and how to set up your business. Most importantly, this babysitting course should give you the confidence that helps you feel ready to take on your first babysitting job! Each week, learners will be provided with a printable resource they can use to create a Babysitting Binder to take with them to each babysitting job. They will also be creating their own Babysitter’s Bag. Together with their binder they will feel confident and prepared heading into their first job! Learners who complete this class will also receive a printable Certificate of Completion to show family and friends that they are ready to be a safe and responsible babysitter! Schedule: Each Monday, a series of video lessons will be posted in the Outschool classroom. After completing the video lessons for the week there will be a Nearpod quiz. On some of the weeks there will also be a hands-on project relevant to that week's lessons for learners to complete and share in the Outschool classroom. Learners can then observe and provide positive feedback on other learners’ work as well. Teacher expertise and credentials
After growing up in a home with 4 younger siblings, I had several “mother’s helper” jobs as a babysitter-in-training. After that, I got my first independent babysitting job at the age of 13. I cared for many children in the years to follow - babysitting became my favorite thing to do! I went on to be a nanny for multiple families as a young adult (including caring for children with special needs) and I am now a mother of 4 children. I am excited to use my 20+ years of experience in childcare to help older children and teenagers prepare to care for other children safely and responsibly.
I have been trained and equipped with the knowledge to help young people train and prepare for safe and successful babysitting jobs. In addition to my 20+ years of hands-on experience, I have been a camp counselor for middle school and high school age children for many years, providing training in childcare and behavior management.
I stay up to date on current child development standards and practices via trainings and articles.
I have a degree in Education from Liberty University.
I completed multiple babysitter preparation courses as a teen and have taken CPR certification courses in the past.
