In this 4-week FLEX course, first-time babysitters will learn to be skilled, responsible, and reliable caregivers! We will cover many different topics related to babysitting and how to be the best babysitter they can be!

Class experience

Upon satisfactory completion of this class, learners will be equipped with the knowledge and training they need to be a safe and fun babysitter to a variety of age groups.
After growing up in a home with 4 younger siblings, I had several “mother’s helper” jobs as a babysitter-in-training. After that, I got my first independent babysitting job at the age of 13. I cared for many children in the years to follow - babysitting became my favorite thing to do! I went on to be a nanny for multiple families as a young adult (including caring for children with special needs) and I am now a mother of 4 children. I am excited to use my 20+ years of experience in childcare to help older children and teenagers prepare to care for other children safely and responsibly.

I have been trained and equipped with the knowledge to help young people train and prepare for safe and successful babysitting jobs. In addition to my 20+ years of hands-on experience, I have been a camp counselor for middle school and high school age children for many years, providing training in childcare and behavior management.

I stay up to date on current child development standards and practices via trainings and articles.

I have a degree in Education from Liberty University.

I completed multiple babysitter preparation courses as a teen and have taken CPR certification courses in the past.
Homework Offered
Assessments Offered
Learners will receive a Certificate of Completion upon successful completion of this course.
Grades Offered
On weeks 1 and 4, learners will be expected to complete a project preparing them for their first babysitting job. These projects will include creating a Babysitter’s Bag and a flier advertising their business. Each project will require certain supplies which I will communicate with parents before each week begins.

A printer or printing access for babysitting handbook and certificate of completion after the class is complete. This is optional, as these will be sent as a digital copy with ability to save or print as needed.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
This is NOT a certified class for babysitting, CPR or First Aid but a general concepts class that provides a good foundation.

Any safety information provided in this class is for educational purposes only, and does not substitute for professional medical advice.

Students should be old enough to be comfortable talking about diapers, correct terminology for male/female anatomy and toilet training. The class contains conversations surrounding basic bodily functions and needs for babysitting reference. This is NOT a sex education class and those types of questions will not be answered.

When in week 4 learners make a flier advertising their babysitting business to share in the classroom, they will not be permitted to include personal information.

After completing the video lessons for the week there will be a Nearpod quiz. Learners will not need to sign in to use this external resource.
