In this book club, we'll discuss Book #1 in the graphic novel series, "The Baby-Sitters Club". Each class will cover 3-4 chapters of the book, which learners will read before attending class. During class we will complete comprehension activities, discuss key elements and themes of the book, learn about the elements of graphic novels and how they are used in "Kristy's Great Idea", and try out some fun connected activities. Learners will develop reading comprehension skills, knowledge of graphic novels, and communication skills.
I am an experienced teacher with certification to teach English language arts. I also have a bachelor's degree in English and experience tutoring in English language arts.
Students will read 3-4 chapters of the book prior to arriving to class.
Learners will need to have their own copy of the graphic novel "Kristy's Great Idea".
Informal assessments will be completed in Nearpod, including comprehension questions, character descriptions, and interactive quizzes.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
This novel addresses potentially sensitive topics, including divorce and diabetes.
