Students will learn about the animal through the nonfiction book "Fun Facts About Axolotyl" by Fiona Weber and by watching a short factual video by Animal Fact Files. Next, students will learn how to draw an axolotyl in an interactive, step by step directed drawing art lesson. Then, students will create a vocabulary poster with words and pictures that relate to the animal. Finally, students will use their research and vocabulary poster to write their own nonfiction booklet about axolotyls! (Sentence frames will be used for students who need help framing their sentences and thoughts.) By the end of this 55 minute class, student will have learned a wealth of information about this amazing animal and feel proud to share their knowledge with others!

My name is Lori Costa and I have been an elementary school teacher for over 24 years. In addition, I have been teaching online for three years with private, small group, and large group classes. I specialize in teaching phonics, reading, writing, and art.
I have my Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Children and the Arts. I also have my Multiple Subject Credential with CLAD emphasis.
I have three amazing kids of my own, who range in age from 10 to 19. My husband and I love to travel with our kids and make fun memories together. Trips to the beach are my favorite!
I plan to teach a variety of lessons that incorporate music, movement, art, reading and writing to reach all types of learners.
My philosophy of teaching is to make a personal connection with students throughout each lesson and encourage them every step of the way, instilling a life long love of learning!
