Description
Class Experience
At the end of four weeks, students will have produced several short film clips with authentic-looking special effects added in to their own videos and professional background videos acquired through creative commons licensed libraries.
I have been teaching iMovie for over ten years, and my middle school students frequently win local and state-wide film competitions, largely attributed to their skillful use of many of iMovie's tools that take their student films to much more mature, advanced levels that rival their peers.
Please see course description for session-by-session list of homework.
iMovie (desktop/laptop version preferred) Students do NOT need to have an account with Footagecrate or Freesound for the course.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
At the end of three weeks, students will have produced several short film clips with authentic-looking special effects added in to their own videos and professional background videos acquired through creative commons licensed libraries.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
The Footagecrate library of special effects contains special effects that include muzzle flashes, weapons, zombies, and blood splatter. Students will be instructed NOT to use these special effects (or any violent special effects) in class. The effects students WILL be able to use include magic, sci-fi, weather, cartoon/anime, natural elements, vehicles, dinosaurs and other animals and transportation video effects.
Students can pull professional-quality, copyright-free video or images from pixabay.com or pexels.com, special video effects and sounds from footagecrate.com, and audio tracks from www.soundjay.com and freesound.org
