Audition skills are life skills! Learning these basics helps not just in audition situations but any public speaking, oral presentation, college interviews, and someday, job interviews! Whether your student is interested in voice acting, film, television, school plays, regional play and musical productions or even a Broadway career this is the time to build powerful habits. I am a Broadway composer, playwright, librettist and now a producer of film and stage productions. I know what most acting coaches never will: what the directors, choreographers and casting directors think and say about actors after auditions. In my career I have judged more than 1,500 auditions from high-schoolers to Tony Award and Academy Award nominees/winners. It is a responsibility I take very seriously and I want to take this portion of my time and invest in your students. I will share my own insights and my observations from behind the audition table. I hope that this insider information will help students de-mystify auditions and understand what the judges are actually seeing, hearing and evaluating. In this 55 minute introductory class we will cover the foundations of a great audition and a few surprisingly simple mistakes that can sink one fast (SEE SPECIFIC LEARNING GOALS BELOW.) We will also go over what to do if you get offered the part you want, or a part you're not thrilled with, or how to deal with the disappointment of not being selected. My hope is that this knowledge will put students in a much better position to enter life's up-front communication challenges with confidence and knowledge. I look forward to seeing them in class soon!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Eastern University, a six year Master-Storyteller Apprenticeship with Arthur Giron, (Former head of Carnegie-Mellon University graduate stage/screen writing program), and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters for "Achievements and Service in the Performing Arts" from Eastern University in 2016. I was also honored to give the 2016 graduation address for the University and the Templeton Honors College. My first show premiered on Broadway in 2015 (Amazing Grace, Dir. Gabriel Barre). My years climbing the ladder of professional theatre and visual media has given me a unique perspective on the challenges young people face. I will now take some of the lessons which I have applied to seminars and teaching around the country and offer it online to select platforms and students.
