Class Experience

Students will be able to classify each animal we learn about and describe the characteristics of each category of animals. They will learn at least 6-8 individual animals (or more) in each lesson and understand why that animal fits into, for example, the amphibian category by identifying common characteristics of amphibians.
No homework is required, but students will be encouraged to use the knowledge learned in class to identify animals they may see either outside or in books/movies/TV and be able to describe some characteristics of these animals.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I will informally assess learner understanding through group and individual checks for learning throughout the lesson. Typically, I have several teaching slides, then a group activity or game where I ask them to identify something we have learned, then some opportunity for individual attempts/answers. When difficulties are noticed I can help each learner understand what they may be missing.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Most classes will include a short YouTube clip about our featured animal or group of animals. Students will not have direct access to YouTube and will be viewed only as I screenshare.
We will use short YouTube videos to enhance the classroom experience. All YouTube videos will be screenshared only; students will not have access to YouTube directly.
