Class Experience

During each of these classes we will explore a brief biography of different women in history, their life, the society and culture that shaped them, and what contributions they made in their field. We will discuss how their lives would be different if they had been born in different times and cultures and what shaped them into achieving their goals.

Each week we will explore a different powerful woman from history. The first half of the class will be a powerpoint lecture which may include recordings or videos. The second half of the class will be a guided discussion into what we have learned and our individual thoughts on what they did.

Week 1 - Jane Goodall -British Primatologist and Anthropologist
Week 2 - Emily Dickinson -American Poet
Week 3 - Clara Barton - founder of the American Red Cross
Week 4 - Mae Jemison - first African American woman to travel in space
Week 5 - Caroline Herschel - German astronomer in 1800’s
Week 6 - Irene Joliot Curie - French scientist
Week 7 - Elizabeth Cady Stanton -American suffragist, social activist, and abolitionist
Week 8 - Betsy Ross -American flag maker

This class is just a brief look into these amazing women. If you are intrigued and would like to learn more, please check out my other classes, Great Personalities from History. We will take 8 weeks to explore more in depth the lives and history surrounding each of these women individually.
