This Avengers themed camp will cover all the essentials that go into writing a great story--how to select your main characters, figure out a setting, develop your plot, introduce a conflict, resolve your conflict and wrap things up. The stories we write will be based on Marvel's Avengers characters. If possible, we will draw on current events in the real world to create a compelling plot. We will begin each day with me reading a short Avenger story. Then we will focus on one aspect of...
Students will know all of the components that go into writing a good story (main characters, setting, plot, conflict, resolution, etc.) and how to use those components to create an outline that they can then develop into a story. They will learn how to use things they are interested in (Avengers) and what is happening in the world around them to spark their imaginations and start writing.
I have been teaching writing classes since 1998, from 2nd grade creative writing to college level courses. I love finding that spark in kids that gets their imaginations ignited and the ideas flowing!
1-2 paragraphs per day on their own. They may use sample ideas we come up with in class or come up with something entirely different. Monday: Create an outline Tuesday: Opening paragraph--introduce main character and setting Wednesday: Conflict: what is the problem? Who is the enemy? Thursday: Resolution: What is the solution to the problem? How does the story end?
Come with a pencil and something to write with!
4 hours 35 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
